Etsy’s Success Gives Rise to Problems of Credibility and Scale

Depending on whom you ask, Alicia Shaffer, owner of the hit Etsy store Three Bird Nest, is a runaway success story or an emblem of everything that has gone wrong with the fast-growing online marketplace for handmade goods. With the help of up to 25 local seamstresses and alluring photography, Ms. Shaffer takes in upward of $70,000 a month in revenue selling twee headbands and leg warmers via Etsy. But as her business has grown, she has been harshly criticized online and accused of mass-producing goods, of obtaining wares from China. Detractors consider her a blight on Etsy’s hipster cred.

Protesters demand President's ouster in Brazil, decry corruption

Sao Paulo, Brazil (CNN)Demonstrators took to the streets across Brazil on Sunday, protesting corruption and demanding the impeachment of President Dilma Rousseff. Her administration is struggling amid a weak economy and a massive corruption scandal involving the country's state-run oil company. "I love Brazil. I love my country. And I am tired of corruption. We are tired of corruption. It doesn't matter which political party you are from, we are tired of being robbed," a protester told CNN in Sao Paulo, where people packed the main Paulista Avenue.

Tom Cotton (R-Ark.) said on CBS’ "Face the Nation" on Sunday that he had “no regrets at all” over the letter he orchestrated to be sent to Iranian ayatollahs warning them that any deal struck with the Obama administration over their country’s nuclear program could be cancelled by a future administration or Congress. Cotton and the 46 other Republican senators who signed his letter have come under severe criticism from both Democrats and Republicans for seeking to undermine ongoing negotiations to curb Iran’s nuclear program.

Wealthy eccentric says in HBO finale he 'killed them all'

NEW ORLEANS (AP) The arrest of Robert Durst, a wealthy eccentric linked to two killings and his wife's disappearance, came on Sunday just before the finale in an HBO show about his life in which he said he "killed them all." Durst was arrested on a murder warrant just before Sunday evening's finale of an HBO serial documentary about his links to three sensational killings. In the finale, Durst was asked about similarities in handwriting in a letter he wrote and another linked to one of the killings. Later, filmmakers said Durst wore his microphone into the bathroom.

Jeffrey Williams arrested over Ferguson police shooting

A man has been arrested in connection with the shooting of two policemen in the troubled city of Ferguson.

Jeffrey Williams, 20, has been charged with two counts of assault and gun violations.The police officers were wounded when shots were fired at them during a protest on Thursday night. Ferguson has been a flashpoint for race relations following the shooting of black teenager Michael Brown by a white police officer in August 2014.Giving details of the arrest, County Prosecutor Robert McCulloh said Mr Williams had admitted to his "participation in firing the shots", but added, "it was not certain if he had been targeting police."

Big protests in Brazil demand President Rousseff's impeachment

More than a million Brazilians have joined demonstrations demanding President Dilma Rousseff's impeachment. The protesters say the president must have known about a corruption scandal which has engulfed Brazil's state-owned oil company, Petrobras. The political opposition says much of the alleged bribery took place when she was head of the company. But Ms Rousseff has been exonerated in an investigation by the attorney general and denies involvement.

Protester charged with shooting officers in Ferguson

A 20-year-old protester has been charged with shooting two police officers in Ferguson, Mo., last week, authorities said Sunday. County Prosecuting Attorney Robert McCulloch said Jeffrey Williams was charged with two counts of assault in the first degree, one count of firing a weapon from a vehicle and thee counts of armed criminal action. McCulloch said Williams admitted firing the shots but said he was shooting at someone else.

Robert Durst murder case tied to wife's disappearance, source says

Los Angeles authorities moved to arrest New York real estate scion Robert Durst this weekend after reviewing new evidence that detectives believe linked him to the 2000 slaying of an L.A. writer, a law enforcement source told The Times.

Screech from ‘Saved by the Bell’ Dustin Diamond Arrested for Stabbing a Man at a Bar in Ozaukee County, Wisconsin

Dustin Diamond, the actor who played ‘Screech’ on ‘Saved By the Bell’ was arrested Thursday night after stabbing a man with a switchblade if a bar north of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. According to TMZ, Screech allegedly stabbed a guy after getting into an argument late Christmas evening that quickly escalated, the bar owner says it was over pics they 

were taking of Diamond. Gee, and I thought it may have been started after a customer asked Dustin to talk like Screech.  The 37 year old Dustin Diamond and his girlfriend were arrested shortly after they drove away from the Grand Ave Saloon. Screech was arrested for recklessly endangering safety, carrying a concealed weapon and possessing a switchblade knife. Diamond’s27 year old fiancee also faces a disorderly conduct charge  Diamond appeared in court on Friday and his bail was set at $10,000. His next court appearance scheduled for December 29. Diamond’s public defender could not be reached for comment. Wait, Screech has a public defender? My how the nerdy mighty have fallen.
